About Mary Miranda

Education and Training:

I am a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado with a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Counseling. I am also Licensed by the state of Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). As an undergraduate, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, from the University of Colorado at Denver.

I am passionate about providing counseling to adults, adolescents, couples and families. I have worked with a number of individuals affected by past and current traumatic situations and utilized EMDR to work with trauma. I have also worked extensively with individuals struggling with anxiety and depression. I worked for a number of years providing career counseling along with assisting clients with life changes.

In terms of working with families, I am challenged by assisting the parents and children to improve communication, change behavior patterns, and learn to enjoy each other. I believe, as a parent, and a professional, that good communication, positive interaction, and problem solving with kids are some key concepts to successful parent/child relationships. I truly believe that most youth want to talk to us (adults) or just want to be listened to. I think many of them are unsure how to communicate with us or even wonder if we're interested in talking and listening to them. But I think they need us more than ever during this phase of their life.

One thing I have noticed in counseling numerous individuals is that many clients suffer from anxiety and depression. I believe we live in environments that are so demanding of our time and energy and that we tend not to take care of ourselves until it is too late. With guidance, we can learn to take control of our fear and care for our mind, body, and spirit. The benefits to learning to care for ourselves is tremendous.

I am trained in for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and utilize this therapy with clients when indicated.
